DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENT RECORDS

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students over 18 years of age (“eligible students”) certain rights with respect to the student’s education records. Pursuant to these rights, the Jemez Mountain Public Schools announces the following:

The Jemez Mountain School District will be destroying Special Education records starting on January 3, 2022 for all persons who graduated (or had not been in the district for over 5 years) on or before the year May 2016. Records destroyed will include IEPs, diagnostic evaluations, and all similar documents. These records may be needed by the person for social security benefits and/or other purposes. If you would like a copy of your records before they are destroyed, please call (575) 638-5491 or mail a request to: JMPS PO Box 230 Gallina, NM  87017 ATTN: SPED Dept. to make arrangements for pick-up.

 Records will be purged 90 days after this notice.
