Dear JMPS Community:

Several months of planning, discussion and collaboration with all of our stakeholders took place to develop a comprehensive plan that addresses our district needs. The purpose of this Strategic Plan is to define clearly our priorities and action steps to ensure we meet the needs of all of our students, families and staff. This plan will serve as a document and will be evaluated by committees on a quarterly basis using data relevant to each focus area. We will work collaboratively with stakeholders to bring creativity, innovation and a true sense of accomplishment that reflects high levels of effective teaching and learning in all of our schools. It is an honor and privilege to serve the JMPS community. Thank you for your support, engagement and involvement in the Jemez Mountain Public School District.

    Focus Areas

    Partnership with Families and Communities

    Safe and Healthy Environment

    Cultural Connections

    Creating Lifelong Innovators

    Why is this important?

    • Families are part of the team. Teachers, parents, and students need to work together to be successful. We want to build a school community.

    What does this mean?

    • Direct communication needs to happen. We need access lines of communication i.e. emails, phones, etc. We need to contact them and they need to contact us. Communication is key.
    • Building a strong partnership with our students, parents and community through Accountability and Transparency.

    Action Steps

    • Create a master list with parent/student email, phone number, and address.
    • Teachers need to reach out to parents frequently and consistently
    • Staff needs to respond to parents in a timely manner
    • Monthly parent showcase by grade level or school
    • School Website needs to be current.
    • Posted teacher office hours.
    • Continue Parent-Teacher conferences.
    • Encourage parent involvement in school activities
    • Use zoom/meet as resources with parents/guardians.
    • Have community meetings in the various communities to allow parents easier access to these meetings.
    • Survey parents quarterly
    • Parents are provided access to the Parent Portal on PowerSchool.
    • Support technological access to all students.

    Why is this important?

    • Safety and health are essential to a successful learning environment.

    What does this mean?

    • All students, staff, and parents need resources and strategies to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle.

    Action Steps

    • Encourage students to discover new ways to interact/communicate with others to foster social and emotional well-being.
    • Partner with community resources providers such as Luciente, Las Clinicas Del Norte, Navajo Nation/Chapter Houses, and RAC STOP.
    • Collaborate with in-house staff for appropriate resources on safety and health: both physical and mental.
    • Share resources accurately and timely with stakeholders through a variety of methods, including Website, Classrooms, “Robo Calls” or autodialer, newsletters, social media, and posted flyers.
    • Revisit Safety Committee and share out appropriate information with all stakeholders

    Why is this important?

    • When students can identify in lessons they take ownership in their learning. By providing culturally responsive lessons, students’ engagement improves.

    What does this mean?

    • When students, staff, and the community feel culturally connected, it fosters an environment where all stakeholders feel welcomed, safe, and proud in their communities and diverse cultures.

    Action Steps

    • District-wide culturally responsive practices
    • Teacher cultural diversity awareness training
    • Provide programs and opportunities to celebrate differences
    • Partnerships with community members to share culturally connections

    Why is this important?

    • Creating lifelong innovators is important because students will be able to react to changes and discover new opportunities. This will allow them to better navigate the ever-changing world independently.

    What does this mean?

    • Creating lifelong innovators means developing successful, contributing members of society by fostering their creativity and ability to adapt to different situations throughout their life.

    Action Steps

    • Conduct interest inventories and surveys
    • Identify strengths and challenges
    • Creating opportunities to build on strengths
    • Teaching goal setting, evaluation, feedback, and strategies
    • Assign activities that foster problem-solving skills related to technology and progress present in a global society.
